Bank unions to resume stir
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, DEC. 13. Bank unions have decided to resume their
agitation and call for a strike around December 20, following
introduction of the Banking Companies (Amendment) Bill in Lok
Sabha today to reduce Government equity in public sector banks to
33 per cent.
In a statement, a senior leader of the United Forum of Bank
Unions (UFBU), Mr. Tarakeshwar Chakraborti, said that in
pursuance of its commitment to the World Bank, the IMF and the
World Trade Organisation the Centre had gone ahead and introduced
the Bill ignoring protests by all opposition parties.
``In terms of the UFBU standing decision there shall be another
all-India bank strike immediately now and it is likely to be
around December 20,'' he said.
