The week ahead
THIS will be a very joyful week because Jupiter, the planet of
good luck and personal expansion, is making an exact aspect to
the Sun, which rules one's destiny and future. This is a
wonderful time to broaden your horizons. Take in a foreign film,
read a book on a new subject, or spend some time outside
familiarising yourself with the natural world.
Jupiter is about expanding your own personal world, either by
physical travel and exploration, or by learning about new places
and ideas. No matter which way you choose to expand your
horizons, you are sure to enjoy yourself.

What is meant by "Thri Jyeshta"?
T. U. VASUDEVAN, Chennai-4
CELEBRATING in the Tamizh month of Aani (when the Sun transits
the Sign of Mithuna, according to the Souramana System) the
wedding of a bride and her groom, both born as eldest child in
their respective families, is called "Thri Jyeshta". She is
Jyeshta Putri, he is Jyeshta Putra, and the month is called
Jyeshta Maasam. Celebrating such a wedding is considered
inauspicious. Some believe that, if during the Muhurtham for such
a wedding, Budha (lord of Mithuna) is beneficially aspected, or
if the Sun in Mithuna receives the aspect of Jupiter, the wedding
may yet be celebrated.
However, practical experience shows that Thri Jyeshta's ill-
effects cannot be averted even by resorting to such so-called
exceptions to the rule.
