UAE wins ACC Trophy

SHARJAH, NOV. 25. Teenager Mairaj Khaliq kept his nerve to steer United Arab Emirates to a three-wicket win over Hong Kong in the final of the Asian Cricket council Trophy on Friday.

Chasing 187 to win, UAE was precariously placed on 134 for six when the 19-year-old Khaliq walked in. The left-handed teenager showed a veteran's temperament and proved a worthy partner to Mehmood Pirbaksh as the pair put on 35 valuable runs to edge UAE towards victory.Pirbaksh's dismissal with the score on 169 did not faze Khaliq, who brought up victory in stunning fashion when he hit Hong Kong off-spinner Alex French for three 6s.

The scores: Hong Kong 186 in 49.4 overs (Rahul Sharma 78; Asim Saeed four for 32) lost to UAE 191 in 44 overs (Mehmood Pirbaksh 56, Nasir Siddiqui 25, Miraj Khaliq 42; Mohd. Zubair four for 30).
