Court verdict in favour of parish priest

By Our Staff Reporter

NAGERCOIL, NOV. 25. The Nagercoil court has passed a verdict in favour of the parish priest of `Christ the King' church, Father Dominic Kadachadhas and upheld the Catholic Cannon law authorising the priest to conduct the mass and also administer the church.

Disposing a petition of Mr. Cruz Michael of Christu Nagar contending that the people of the area should conduct the annual festival at the church and not the parish priest, the court granted the right to discharge duties freely and fairly to the priest.

Explaining the circumstances leading to the suspension of Mr. Cruz Michael from the parish activities by the Roman Catholic Bishop of Kottar Diocese, Rt. Rev.

Dr. Leon Dharmaraj, Fr. Dominic told reporters here on Friday that Mr. Cruz Michael had rebelled against the religious practices in vogue.

The present parish council was autonomous and democratic in nature and it discharged duties impartially, he added.

There were 116 parishes in the district and the councils have been established in 108 of them.

Fr. Benjamin, co-pastor, said Mr. Cruz Michael was found guilty of printing and circulating byelaws aimed at inciting the members.

Meanwhile the annual festival was conducted by Fr. Dominic and the Bishop presided.
