Govt. denies link with escape of Chhota Rajan
NEW DELHI, NOV. 25. The Government today denied that it was
linked in any way with the escape of underworld don Chhota Rajan
from Bangkok yesterday and described the reports in a section of
the media as ``a mischievous attempt to misguide the people.''
(The Maharashtra Home Minister, Mr. Chaggan Bhujbal, had alleged
that the Centre allowed the gangster to escape).
An official statement issued here said ``there is no truth in
these conjectures or accusations...the reports in question seem
to be a mischievous attempt on the part of vested interests to
misguide the people.'' The Centre was already in touch with
Interpol in this regard, it added.
The Minister of State for External Affairs, Mr. Ajit Panja, told
a private television network that the Centre had done whatever
the Thai Government wanted it to do for Rajan's extradition. ``It
(Maharashtra Government's charge) has not come to my notice. But,
if they have said so it is absolutely wrong. Point to point
action was taken and there was no delay on our part.''
The Union Minister of State for Home, Mr. Vidyasagar Rao, said it
was not proper for anybody to comment on this case till the
Government received the details of the incident.
