French defence chief falls ill

NEW DELHI, APRIL 25. The visiting French Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Pierre Kelche, has taken ill and has been shifted to a hospital in Gwalior.

According to Defence Ministry sources, Gen. Kelche fell ill on board an Indian Air Force Avro aircraft which was taking him to Agra.

The plane was thereafter diverted to Gwalior - a major air base where French Mirage-2000 planes of the IAF are located.

Gen. Kelche, at a press conference on Monday, had said that he would visit military establishments in Agra, Mumbai and Pune.

After the visit, final discussions with the Chief of Army Staff, Gen. V.P Malik, for charting out the future course of Indo-French military cooperation are slated.
