Drought may lead to famine: CPI(M)
NEW DELHI, APRIL 25. Charging the Vajpayee Government with
``lackadaisical attitude'' in dealing with drought conditions,
the CPI(M) today expressed apprehensions that the situation was
fast leading to a that of a ``near famine''.
``The lackadaisical attitude adopted by the Central Government
is, indeed, unfortunate. Reports suggest that this is probably
the worst condition of drought leading to a near famine situation
in independent India,'' the CPI(M) central committee said in its
resolution adopted here.
The party urged the Centre to immediately provide the required
relief and funds to meet the drought conditions.
